About the Course
This 16-week hybrid course assists internationally educated medical laboratory technologists to prepare for the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) national licensing examination in Canada. The program will consist of weekly synchronous sessions, online content, including the three mandatory weekend onsite sessions at The Michener Institute, over three weekends for simulated lab experience (mandatory/required).
Outcome
Upon successful completion of the course, the Learner will be able to:
- Explain fundamental principles of immunology and their significance to blood bank testing
- Explain the principles of the direct and indirect antiglobulin test.
- Classify the ABO Blood Group System.
- Classify the Rh Blood Group System.
- Classify Other Major Blood Group Systems.
- Perform ABO and Rh Grouping.
- Perform antibody screen and antibody identification.
- Perform compatibility testing.
- Describe the production of blood and blood components
- Describe the appropriate use of blood and blood product
- Outline procedures and best practices for blood product management
- Investigate Hemolytic Disease of the Fetus and Newborn
- Discuss blood product administration and examine the adverse effects of blood transfusion
- Outline the role of hemovigilance in transfusion medicine.
- Describe safety and quality assurance requirements in the blood bank
