All applicants must go through the Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process from the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR). The PLA establishes your eligibility to take the CAMLPR National Certification Examinations.

Applicants must submit proof of:

• A valid Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) report from the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR).
• Meeting the English Language requirements by successfully completing one of the following assessments if English is a second language. English Language Assessments must be completed within the last two years.
  • The Michener English Language Assessment (MELA) with a minimum score of eight (8) in all four (4) components (Listening, Speaking, Writing and Reading)

Please Note – The MELA is the preferred English Language Assessment as it is designed for healthcare professionals. Also note that applicants educated outside of Canada will require the MELA (or another English Language Assessment for registration with CMLTO).

• OR the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with an overall score of 6.5 with all components (bands) of the test being at a 6 or above.
• OR the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with an overall score of 65, with no communicative skill (reading, listening, writing, speaking) under 60.

Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or Refugee status.

If you are applying to take any of the 5 CAMLPR Bridging courses: Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Clinical Microbiology, Transfusion Science (Medicine), Histotechnology (Histology), please indicate which CAMLPR Bridging course you are applying to take. If you are planning on taking more than 1 CAMLPR Bridging course, please check the lab dates listed on each discipline specific course page to ensure there are no overlapping lab dates.

We would suggest students only take 1 CAMLPR Bridging course at one time or at most 2 if the lab dates do not overlap.

1. Supporting documents are submitted through Michener Self-Service. You will receive an acknowledgment email with your credentials within three business days after your application is submitted.
2. A firm offer of admission may only be given to applicants who have met all the admission criteria and have submitted all required supporting documents by the application deadline.
3. Seats are limited (22 seats per intake) and offered on first-come, first-qualified, first-accepted basis. All other candidates will be placed on a wait list. Offers will continue to be sent to candidates on the wait list until the course is full. Any applicants remaining on the waitlist are encouraged to apply early for the next intake of the course.
