Michener Gitigan

The Michener Gitigan is an Indigenous-led healing garden established on Michener campus by the UHN Indigenous Health Team in 2021. It follows the practices and protocols for planting a ‘Gitigan’ (the Anishinaabemowin word for ‘garden’) that have been passed down through generations.

The Gitigan is a place to grow plants native to the area, traditional medicines and many plants used by Indigenous nations for their healing properties to help improve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. Indigenous events and sunrise ceremonies have been hosted in the Gitigan, and it is regularly maintained and harvested by Michener and UHN employees.

If you have any questions about the Michener Gitigan, please contact indigenoushealth@uhn.ca.
