The purpose of this policy is to define how The Michener Institute of Education at UHN (“Michener”) admits and re-admits domestic students and international students to its full time and part time programs.
Definitions
Domestic Students – Applicants who are in possession of valid documentation confirming their legal status as Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or convention refugees (protected persons).
International Students – Applicants who are not domestic students who meet the guidelines established for international students in Canada by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
Re-admission – Michener students on Leave of Absence OR Academic Suspension must apply for readmission by the deadlines meeting all terms and conditions outlined in the letter from the Academic Chair.
Leave of Absence: Michener students may request a leave of absence from their program of study due to prolonged illness, injury, or due to personal circumstances which make it temporarily impossible to continue in the program.
Academic Suspension: Students who fail courses in a semester (other than the first semester) cannot continue in the program and will be placed on academic suspension. Students with first semester failures are required to reapply to their program.

Admission to Michener
Program Admission and Selection
Program admission requirements vary by program and are identified in Michener publications. At the application closing date, as published in Michener publications, applications are assessed to determine if admission requirements are met and then all qualified applications are ranked. Offers of admission are issued to the top ranked candidate within the program’s admission quota.
International Admission
Year One international targets are reviewed annually by Michener leadership and are subject to change. International students are required to meet all of Michener’s academic and non-academic standards for performance, including the completion of all credential requirements.
International students’ status is determined at the time of application and the appropriate international tuition schedules are applied for the entire duration of their studies. International students who transition to domestic status (such as Canadian Citizenship or Canadian Permanent Resident) are eligible for domestic fees after semester 2.
Re-admission
Students on leave of absence or academic suspension are eligible to apply for readmission. Students who fail courses in their first semester are not eligible for academic suspension and will need to reapply to the program.
Readmission is not guaranteed and is dependent on available capacities in the program and clinical education. Academic Chairs will make all readmission decisions.
To be considered for re-admission, students must submit and applications for readmission by the deadline set out in the letter from the Academic Chair outlining the terms and conditions of return. All conditions must be met prior to returning to their program.
