About the Course
This 16-week hybrid course assists internationally educated medical laboratory technologists to prepare for the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) national licensing examination in Canada. The program will consist of weekly synchronous sessions, online content, including the three mandatory weekend onsite sessions at The Michener Institute, over three weekends for simulated lab experience (mandatory/required).
Outcome
Upon successful completion of the course, learners will be able to:
- Apply foundational and advanced laboratory protocols—including specimen collection, safety standards, and quality control measures—to ensure accurate and reliable diagnostic testing.
- Analyze hematological and coagulation processes, including cell development, disease mechanisms, and test methodologies, to interpret laboratory findings and support clinical decision-making.
- Evaluate abnormal results and diagnostic patterns using manual and automated techniques (e.g., microscopy, flow cytometry, hematology analyzers) to differentiate between physiological and pathological conditions.
- Integrate knowledge of hematologic disorders, including anemias, leukemias, and hemostasis abnormalities, to correlate laboratory data with clinical presentations and guide patient management.
- Demonstrate professional laboratory practice by adhering to regulatory standards, maintaining patient confidentiality, and contributing to continuous quality improvement in a high-demand clinical environment.
