Program Length: 8 or 11 weeks (40 hours per week)
Tuition: Sponsorship Through Northern Ontario Hospital as per Ministry of Health Funding Criteria
Description
The Michener Institute of Education at UHN, in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Health, offers Acute and Critical Care Nursing Certificate Programs exclusively for Northern Ontario Hospitals. These programs are designed to equip Registered Nurses with the foundational knowledge and skills required by the Ministry of Colleges & Universities standards for Critical Care Nursing.
The program prepares nurses to begin practice as novice ICU nurses while emphasizing the importance of continuing learning through hospital or unit-specific orientation, education delivered by Nurse Educators, and professional growth through clinical experience. As a generalized critical care education program, it provides broad preparation but does not cover every specialized clinical situation that may be encountered in practice and does not include advanced critical care specialty training.
By making these programs accessible to nurses working in Level 1, 2, and 3 ICUs in Northern Ontario, this partnership supports hospitals in strengthening their workforce capacity and enhancing patient care across the region.
This course is not available for individual registration. Contact ce@michener.ca for more information.
To allow flexibility and support Northern Ontario Hospitals the funded education provided by Michener and the Ministry of Health is not limited to Level 1/2/3 ICU programs. Michener will be flexible with course offerings and delivery methods to allow any Northern Ontario hospital to participate in educational opportunities.
