Learner Outcomes

This is a preparatory course for the Sonography Canada Core credentialing exam. It consists of six modules, each with an associated quiz to verify retention of the material, in addition to a final exam. Delivery is online and asynchronous (independent study) with the availability of a tutor to answer questions where needed. This course provides a thorough review of all examinable competencies, including operation of equipment, technical analysis, self-protection, legal and ethical requirements, professional conduct, patient safety and comfort, and equipment maintenance. Reference resources are provided for further study.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, the Learner will be able to:

1. Integrate ultrasound physics and instrumentation principles into practical scanning, equipment operation and maintenance.
2. Adapt patient management approach in response to safety and comfort parameters.
3. Produce complete and accurate documentation of the ultrasound exam.
4. Engage in self-protection practices.
5. Examine the legal and ethical requirements of the sonographer’s role.
