Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will demonstrate knowledge of:

  1. The principles of therapeutic drug monitoring and toxicology, including toxicity and assay of various significant analytes.
  2. The anatomy and physiology of the several endocrine glands involved in the regulation of homeostasis.
  3. Mechanisms and laboratory diagnosis of diseases of these endocrine glands.
  4. Laboratory methods used to assay various hormones used in clinical diagnosis and treatment of endocrine disorders, including interpretation and sources of error.

Text Book

Bishop ML, Fody EP, Schoeff L. Clinical Chemistry: Principles, Procedures, Correlations. 8th ed. Philadelphia: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2017. Not included in course fee. It is recommended that students obtain this textbook prior to starting the course. Students are responsible for acquiring course textbooks. Textbook can be purchased at the U of T bookstore.
