Build on the knowledge acquired with Pathology 1 with this advanced course which further develops the fundamentals of common disease processes.

This course is designed for Medical Laboratory Technologists preparing for cross-training in Pathology, or practicing Technologists who require a refresher in Pathology

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, the Learner will be able to:

  • Describe the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, and pathology of the Heart, Pericardium and Vessels.
  • Describe the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, and pathology of the most common non-neoplastic and neoplastic conditions in the Respiratory System.
  • Describe the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, and pathology of the Hematopoietic and Lymphoid systems.
  • Describe the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, and pathology of the Gastrointestinal System.
  • Describe the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, and pathology of the Accessory organs to digestion.
  • Describe the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, and pathology of the most common non-neoplastic and neoplastic conditions in the Urinary System.
  • Describe the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, and pathology of the most common non-neoplastic and neoplastic conditions in the Male and Female Reproductive Systems.
  • Describe the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, and pathology of the Endocrine System.
  • Describe the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, and pathology of the Nervous System.
  • Describe the epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, and pathology of the Skin and Musculoskeletal Systems.

Text Book

Kumar, V., Abbas, A., Aster, J.C., Deyrup, A.T. Robbins Basic Pathology, 11th Edition, Philadelphia: Elsevier, 2022. Not included in course fee. It is recommended that students obtain this textbook prior to starting the course. Students are responsible for acquiring course textbooks. Textbook can be purchased at the U of T bookstore.

• Breast, Endocrine, Head and Neck and Gastrointestinal/Alimentary Tract systems
• Disturbances of blood flow
• Degenerative disorders
