Mandatory Assessment

The CASPer (Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics)

Applicants to Michener’s full-time programs  (Chiropody, Diagnostic Cytology, Genetics Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Respiratory Therapy and Ultrasound) are required to complete CASPer (Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics), to assist with the selection process. CASPer results will be used along with published admission requirements to rank applicants and offer admission.

CASPer is an online test designed to assess key non-cognitive skills, as well as interpersonal and professional characteristics for students to be successful in Michener programs and in health care professions.

The CASPer test is comprised of 12 sections of video and written scenarios. Following each scenario, you will be required to answer a set of probing questions within a set amount of time. The test typically takes between 75-90 minutes to complete. Each response is graded by a different rater, giving a very robust and reliable view of personal and professional characteristics important to Michener programs. No studying is required for CASPer, although you may want to familiarize yourself with the test structure at takeCASPer , and ensure you have a quiet environment to take the test.

In order to take CASPer, you will be responsible for securing access to a laptop or desktop computer with webcam and audio capabilities. You will require the following for both account creation and taking the test:

  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Valid email address
  • Working webcam
  • Working microphone
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection

No exceptions will be provided for applicants unable to take CASPer online. Please go to takeCASPer  to sign up and reserve a test using your OCAS ID and a piece of government-issued photo ID.
