Established in 2001 by Renate Krakauer, former President and CEO of The Michener Institute, this award recognizes a student engaged in a research project under the supervision of a faculty member. The project must be completed outside of normal course requirements.

Criteria 1: Engaged in, or intending to engage in a research project in any health sciences subject area related to Michener programs under the supervision of a faculty member. Must be outside of normal course requirements.
Criteria 2: Demonstrate how this award will help him/her start or continue with the research project. Research project must be outside of normal course requirements.
Criteria 3: Incrementally improved his/her technical skills and knowledge.
Minimum GPA: N/A
Type of Application: Application and reference. Must not have received Professional Development funding from another source.
Application Requirements: Written description of the research project including the research goals, possible broader applications, and the potential benefit to the health/educational community.
Nomination/Reference Requirements: A supporting letter must accompany the application. For graduating students going into a research environment (at a University or with an employer), the letter must come from the student’s supervisor on the research project. For current students, the letter must come from the faculty member or research supervisor on the proposed research project.

**Michener established various endowed Awards through generous donor contributions that were matched by the provincial government’s Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS). The income generated from these endowments is used to support Awards for Michener students who are Canadian citizens (or permanent residents or protected persons), who are residents of Ontario (student has lived in Ontario for at least 12 consecutive months up to the beginning of full-time post-secondary study).
