The Hospital Professionals Division offers seven scholarships (one per region) annually to students who are entering professions within the HPD.
The fund offers OPSEU members or their dependents an opportunity to win a $750 scholarship toward post-secondary education at a publicly funded recognized Canadian university or college. To receive the scholarship, the student must be confirmed as enrolled in a Hospital Professional program.
How to Apply
- Applicants must complete a personal statement about why they have chosen a hospital profession and what their future goals are.
- Applicants are asked to submit an essay of no more than 1,500 words answering the following questions:
- What are the major issues facing Hospital Professionals today and how does OPSEU help workers deal with these issues? In your opinion what are the strengths of a publicly funded health care system?
Applications Deadline
The deadline for applications and submissions will be June 1 of each year. The scholarships will be awarded to successful candidates by mid- August. Successful candidates will be asked to provide confirmation of university or college enrollment before the scholarship is issued.
In your cover letter, please provide the name, address and OPSEU local number of the member in good standing upon whom you are dependent, or your own information in the case of a member application for scholarship.
Essay and personal statements are reviewed and marked by an independent panel commissioned by the Communications Division of OPSEU and The HPD. Essays will not be returned to the applicant.
An appointed OPSEU representative will, to the extent possible, follow-up with the award winners and the school they are enrolled in at the time the award is issued to offer congratulations and ensure that the scholarship is recognized as part of the student’s record of achievement.
