Michener is committed to optimizing safety for our community of learners and faculty and has clear guidelines pertaining to the vaccination status, as per new institutional policies and guidelines.
As per those policies, all learners, faculty and staff are required to demonstrate full vaccination (two doses of an approved vaccine). Individuals who are not vaccinated will not be able to access the building, including in-person programming for which they are registered.
This is a requirement for those who require being onsite at Michener. The guidelines are changing rapidly, and additional requirements may be put into place in the coming days.
Program staff will contact learners directly if there are any implications to your learning. All new registrants will be required to upload their proof of registration to Self Service on our secured Student Information System. Instructions for uploading COVID vaccine records . Learners actively registered for courses will be contacted by their Program Assistant for further clarification on what is required. Medical exemptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and a vaccine medical exemption form must be completed and submitted. To work or study at Michener, students and employees must receive both doses of a Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccine by October 22, 2021.

What is Michener’s vaccination policy and who does it apply to?
Michener requires that learners who will be participating in programming onsite demonstrate proof of vaccination to COVID-19. For programs offered by the School of Continuing Education, this includes any in-person learning at 222 St. Patrick Street, or at any of the UHN hospitals.

How do I share my vaccine information?
Vaccine information can be shared using the Self-Service Portal. Instructions for doing so can be found by downloading a step-by-step guide.
Can I just show my vaccine receipts when I show up for my course?
You must provide your vaccine receipts in advance of arriving at Michener. Only learners who have been pre-approved for entry to the building will be able to access their class or workshop. Please monitor our website for up-to-date information as this may change with the introduction of the Provincial vaccine passport.
Where can I find my vaccine receipts / proof of vaccination?
Your vaccine receipts can be accessed by visiting the Government of Ontario website . You can download the information by providing your health care information.
How do I access the online screening tool?

If I’m fully vaccinated, do I still need to complete an online screen?
Yes, you are still required to complete an online screen when you arrive onsite at Michener. When you arrive onsite, please complete a very quick series of questions at www.uhnscreen.ca .
What can I expect when I arrive for in-person learning on campus?
When you arrive onsite for a program, you will be expected to complete a brief online screen. You will be required to sanitize your hands, and wear a fresh mask. Masks are available at the front desk upon entry. You must show your screening pass to the front desk clerk or security guard upon entry. If you provided proof of vaccination in advance, your name will be on an approved list to participate in your workshop.
Michener will continue to implement recommended public health guidelines, including the use of masks, and will also maintain physical distancing and capacity restrictions.
I am participating in a Michener program that is being delivered at my home organization. Do I still need to provide Michener with proof of vaccination?
If you are a staff of another organization participating in a learning program that is being delivered by Michener, you are required to adhere to the vaccination policy of your organization while at its facilities. If you are coming to Michener for in-person learning, you must demonstrate proof of vaccination before visiting a Michener/UHN facility for your programs.
What can I expect when I arrive for in-person learning hosted by Michener at another facility?
It is important to pay attention to the policies, procedures, and health and safety guidelines implemented by your home organization, or of the facility at which Michener is running its programming. Depending on the facility at which you are learning, health and safety requirements may be put in place, including the use of masks and proof of vaccination.
Your program administrators will be in touch to share any important details about COVID-19 requirements you need to be made aware of before coming onsite.
What vaccines are accepted for full vaccination?
Michener will accept vaccines approved by Health Canada or World Health Organization .
I only have one dose of the vaccine. Is this acceptable?
At least one dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine is required to be onsite at Michener or UHN sites after September 7, 2021. As of October 8, 2021, anyone coming to Michener must be fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated means that you have received all of the required doses of a Health Canada or World Health Organization approved vaccine.
I can’t come onsite because I don’t have a vaccine and I’m registered for an onsite program. Can I still participate?
If you are not able to get vaccinated, you must demonstrate proof of medical exemption. Michener will accommodate students based on this. If you are otherwise unable to get vaccinated, and do not have a valid medical exemption approved by a physician, then you will not be able to visit Michener for onsite programming. In this case, you will be notified of any change to your registration status by a Program Assistant or Manager.
If you are planning on getting a vaccine, and require more time, the School of Continuing Education can process a transfer to another section. Please email ce@michener.ca if you have any questions about this.

My learning is completely online. Do I still need to demonstrate proof of vaccination?
If your learning is 100% online (i.e. there are no in-person learning components for your online course or program), you are not required to provide Michener with proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
If I’m fully vaccinated, do I still need to wear personal protective equipment like masks when I’m onsite?
Yes. Our goal is to ensure the safety of all staff and students onsite. Even if you are fully vaccinated, you will be required to wear masks onsite, and adhere to the safety measures put in place by Michener. Michener is following best practice public health guidelines on campus.
Where are you storing my vaccine records? How long are they stored?
Your vaccine receipts are being uploaded to a secure platform for managing student information. It will be stored for a period of one year.
I uploaded my record of vaccination a couple of weeks ago, and now I’m taking another course. Do I need to upload the records again?
No. If you are registering for another course within the same academic year, you will not need to upload your vaccine receipts again.
Who will have access to my vaccination records?
We respect the privacy of all of our students. Highly restricted access will be provided to validate the information you provide. It will not be shared broadly or for any other purpose. This confidential and restricted information will be validated by a Continuing Education administrator.
I’m registered for an in-person or hybrid program and don’t plan on getting fully vaccinated. Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you are unable, or choose not, to get a vaccine, Michener can process a refund.
I believe that I cannot take the vaccine due to a medical condition. What is it that I need to do?
You must have a physician or registered nurse complete a form that clearly outlines a documented medical reason for not being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and the effective time period for the medical reason (i.e., permanent or time-limited).
To apply for an approved medical exemption, a physician or registered nurse must complete medical excemption form . You must apply for an approved medical contraindication by September 24, 2021 in order to give Health Services sufficient time to review your request.

I believe that I cannot take the vaccine due to non-medical grounds under the Human Rights Code. What is it that I need to do?
You must provide a written request that clearly outlines a reason pursuant to the Human Rights Code which exempts you from getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
You must complete the human rights exemption form to apply for an exemption based on non-medical grounds under the Human Rights Code. You must apply for an exemption by no later than September 24, 2021 and submit all documentation for review via Michener’s People and Culture Department by email to either natasha.kuzmanov@uhn.ca or jacqueline.silvera@uhn.ca titled “Michener Exemption Request.”
If I feel uneasy about attending a workshop/course onsite can I withdraw from the offering with no penalty and a refund?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Michener is continuing to provide essential educational services to health care professionals. Please select date of attendance carefully. The current Withdrawal policy Continuing Education Withdrawals will be upheld. Full refunds will only be awarded when cancellations are initiated by Michener Continuing Education Department. Continuing Education Transfers will also follow policy as stated.
